Union of Arab Chambers Participates In a Workshop on Blockchain Technology to Facilitate Trade

The Union of Arab Chambers participated in the regional workshop held from 29 to 30 April 2025, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), entitled: "The Importance of Using Blockchain Technology in Trade Facilitation".

Experts and specialists from different sectors participated in the workshop to discuss the potential of this technology in developing trade and enhancing transparency and sustainability in the Arab region.

The representative of the Union of Arab Chambers, Dr. Najoua Zhar, presented the Union's vision on how to use blockchain to achieve the sustainable development goals. She stressed the importance of adopting blockchain technology to promote intra-Arab trade and facilitate customs procedures, which contributes to regional economic integration.

Union of Arab Chambers announced that it will continue to work with all concerned parties in order to harness the potential of blockchain technology to serve the sustainable development goals in the Arab region and build a more prosperous, inclusive and sustainable trading future.

At the end of the workshop, a set of recommendations were issued, where the importance of close partnership between the public and private sectors was emphasized, and the need for governments to develop regulatory and legislative policies that support the widespread adoption of blockchain technology. The need for capacity building and training for companies and trade professionals to enable them to make the most of this technology was stressed.
